His star rose high above the lights in Hollywood and found its place among some of the brightest, and the legends. Heath Ledger had it all. Looks, talent, and the good fortune of love and family. It did not take long for the beloved young Aussie to work his way up to the movie screen and into our hearts. For Ledger, it seemed he had only just begun to make his mark in the land of dreams when he died unexpectedly. The world was shocked and saddened by his passing as was his immediate family and former fiancée, Michelle Williams. However, it appears that death itself has not slowed Heath down one bit. Apparently his ghost still haunts Michelle, and has even spoken with famed psychic, James Van Praugh. It would appear that Heath has some unfinished business to attend to.

Heath Ledger was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth, Western Australia. His first acting role came at age of ten in a school play Peter Pan. It was quite obvious early on that his path in life was leading him to a larger audience. After graduating at 16, Heath set out to Sydney, Australia, and pursued an acting career, which landed him roles in television and film during the 90's. He worked on a few TV series, Sweat and Ship to Shore. After years of working in Australia, Ledger took his skills and dreams to the United States. In 1999 he starred in 10 Things I Hate about You with Julia Stiles.

This romantic teen comedy is definitely one to watch. The acting
is superb and the movie was well written.  Ledger's role as a hunky
outcast oozes with charm and hilarity. Stiles' cool character scores
high in this film, making many agree that this one will go down in
film history as one of the best teen movies of all time.

In 2000, he starred in the film The Patriot with Mel Gibson and also Monsters Ball. His star was already shinning when he landed a role in
A Knights Tale in 2001. By 2005 the much sought after actor also starred in CasanovaThe Brothers Grimm,
and Brokeback Mountain. Ledger's path in life was now paved in success. During filming of Brokeback Mountain he dated and later became engaged to actress Michelle Williams. By October of 2005, the couple was blessed with a daughter, Matilda Rose. The couple later called off the engagement in 2007.

Life was going well and Ledger reaped the rewards for all his hard work and dedication. He won an award for best actor for 2005 for his role as Ennis Del Mar, in Brokeback Mountain. Ledger's performance won rave reviews by the critics and showed that Heath was capable of playing any role he portrayed.

In 2007 Heath went on to do a role in the film I'm Not There. Then his last role in The Dark Knight. Before filming of The Dark Knight, Heath had to delve into a deeper and darker mind set in order to understand the character role (the Joker) he was about to play. To better understand the sociopathic clown, Ledger locked himself away in a hotel room for a month, creating what the world would later see on film. He pulled off the role brilliantly. Unfortunately he would not reap the benefits for a job well done.

Heath died at the age of 28, from an accidental overdose of several prescription drugs. Before his death, he had not been feeling well. During the filming of his last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassu, he told screen legend, Christopher Plummer, that he could not sleep and was taking a double dose of Ambien (the sleep aid) in order to get rest, however, he managed only 2 hours of sleep a night at best. On January 22, 2008, his unconscious body was discovered in his Manhattan apartment. EMTs were called in, they tried to revive Ledger but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at 3:36 p.m. His body was later cremated and the ashes interred at Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia. Sadly, six months after his death, he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. His family accepted the award in his place.

Unrested Soul?

After Heath Ledger's death, his
ex-fiancé, actress Michelle Williams claims to have seen Heath's spirit on two occasions. Early one morning (3 am) while she slept, something woke her. She heard eerie sounds in the bedroom that she could not distinguish. A moment later she sat up and realized that the furniture in the room had been rearranged by a shadowy figure. She was scared to death by the image but knew instinctively that it was no stranger who broke into her room; it was the spirit of Ledger.

The second time in the early morning hours, his unrested soul appeared to her at the end of her bed. This time he spoke to her. He told her he was sorry that he could not be there to help raise their daughter and vanished.

James Van Praagh Gets a Visit from Heath

James Van Praagh, who has made a career out of Talking to the Dead, admits that he never met Heath Ledger in life, but he claims to have met him two weeks after Heath's death. Are you scratching your head yet? Confused? While being a guest on the show The View, the renowned psychic/medium, author, and creator of the popular TV series, Ghost Whisper claims to have seen the spirit of Ledger one morning while he was shaving. Heath's face appeared behind the medium on the right side of the mirror.

Heath said, "I messed up." And had other thoughts of his child he left behind. Why he appeared to Van Praagh is a mystery. The psychic says they (meaning Ledger and Praagh) had mutual friends, although no real connection in life.
Apparently Ledger knew of Praagh and what he is able to do, so perhaps this is why he appeared to James. Van Praagh has been touted as a phony by many skeptics and is thought to use the technique of Cold Reading, often utilized by other Mentalists, Illusionists, and Psychics.

In Conclusion

Is Heath Ledger's spirit unrested? We may never know for sure. We can only surmise based on the information of those who claim to have witnessed his apparition. For now we are left with a visual of a young man on the movie screen, in his prime, making us laugh and making us cry. His life was a celebration that we had an invitation to witness from our seat in the movie theater. His death is both tragic and poignant. One thing is for certain, he left us too soon, but the trail of his shooting star can still be seen if you look closely among the vast network of stars that spread out across the midnight blue expanse.
